The Liberty Union boys soccer team moved to 6-3 on the season with a 10-1 victory over Millersport at Liberty Union Middle School Tuesday night.
Liberty Union scored early on their first shot of the game as junior Michael Wagner finished a cross from junior Dylan Drass. Wagner would later get an assist on a cross to junior Nate Winkler who would snap in a header from 8 yards out to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. Winkler and senior Carson Palmer would each score two goals in the first half, Palmer’s second goal coming from an assist by junior Tucker Meachem. The Lions sixth goal of the half came from a pair of freshman as Gavin Eastep scored his first career goal off an assist from freshman Matt Gygi. Millersport would not quit though, as they would find the back of the net just before the end of the first half on a goal by junior Andrew Warner.
In the second half, several of LU’s younger players found their first points of the season. Meachem started the scoring with an unassisted goal. Eastep would find his second goal of the game, also unassisted. Sophomore Tyler Palmer would score his first goal of the season off a header off a corner kick taken by Eastep. Finally freshman Ashton Wilson would score his first goal of his career on a throughball played in by junior Seth Gray.
Liberty Union would play three goalkeepers on the night. Senior Luke McCormick, Dustin Lester, and freshman Jon Wheeler each played stretches of the game. Wheeler registered the only saves on the night for LU with three saves. Millersport junior goalkeeper Nick Shopovski was credited with 13 saves.
Liberty Union will play again at Liberty Union Middle School this Thursday against conference foe Logan Elm at 5:30.
