Liberty Union Boys Soccer won their first conference game moving to 4-3 on the season overall. The closely contested match started with a wonderful strike from senior Carson Palmer from outside the penalty box off a pass from junior Tucker Meachem. The curled shot landed just inside the top right corner crossbar to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Teays Valley would pick up momentum near the end of the second half and would eventually find an equalizer off the head of senior Mason Spencer off a corner kick. The first half would end 1-1.
In the second half, the two teams would trade scoring chances back and forth. Teays Valley senior GK Justin Hill ended the night with 8 saves, while LU’s senior GK Luke McCormick would end the night being credited with 12 saves. LU would find the go ahead goal off another set piece from sophomore Tyler Palmer. Palmer’s free kick would find the head of junior Aaron Basso on the backpost, Basso then headed the ball back into the center of the six yard box where fellow junior Chance Wolffel would head the ball into the back side net.
Teays Valley would create a flurry of chances in the final 10 minutes of the game, but LU’s backline of Basso, Palmer, freshman Gavin Eastep and junior Jacob Fain would battle just enough to keep the one goal win.
The LU Lions will continue their season this Saturday at 2:00pm at the Liberty Union Middle School where they will play Sheridan.
