Dylan Anthony went 3 for 4 for Liberty Union in their second game of the day Saturday against the Lancers of Lakewood. However, it was not enough as the Lions fell 9-3. Mike Crist and Christian Lothe each posted three hit games accounting for six of the Lancers nine hits. They also scored six of the Lancers nine runs.
Peyton Wilson started on the mound for the Lions and struggled in the rain as the mound conditions deteriorated. He allowed four runs, three earned in two and one-third innings. He allowed just three hits but walked four and struck out two. Lucas Slone came on and fared no better in an inning and two-thirds. However, Freshman Hunter Putnam making his varsity debut pitched two inning s of two hit, one run baseball. He also collected his first varsity base hit in the game.
Nick Congrove got the Lions on the board with a two-out double that scored Brody Poston in the third inning to make it a 4-1 Lancers lead. However, a four run fourth by the Lancers blew the game open. Anthony singled home a pair of Lions runs in the fifth when they loaded the bases on three walks. The Lions loaded the bases in the seventh, but Anthony grounded into a game ending doubleplay.
